Introduction to Lizards

There are approximately 3,000 species of lizards throughout the world, with the majority found in warm to tropical climates. Some species lay eggs and others give birth to live young.

Of all reptiles, lizards are the most varied in eating habits and adaptations. Some are carnivores, while others are herbivores or omnivores (eating both plants and other animals). Each species has specific needs to survive in captivity, including housing with appropriate heat, light and humidity, plus the right food. The most common lizards sold in pet stores include Common Green Anoles, Iguanas, Bearded Dragons, Leopard Geckos and various species of Skinks and Swifts.
