Introduction

We Americans love our dogs. It’s estimated that there are over 75 million pet dogs in the United States, second only to the 88 million cats.

For centuries, scientists have been trying to determine why people are so attached to their dogs. Some believe this is because dogs display such loyalty to humans. They are also very smart, with the ability to understand approximately 160 words.

Even if your store does not sell puppies, the information in this module will be useful in helping customers diagnose problems and care for their pets.
